Using IP phones and Wi Fi IP telephones

Using YouFon with IP phones and Wi Fi IP phones is a little more complicated. This is because IP phones and Wi Fi IP phones have an infinite variety of user interfaces depending on the manufacturer. Moreover, each manufacturer uses different words, which can be very confusing to the user. The example here shows the procedures for the SNOM 220 settings screen, which is a well-established SIP IP phones. In general, products by different manufacturers can be set up following this basic procedure. We will explain the process assuming that you have already received your YouFon server name, YouFon telephone number, and YouFon password. See the operation manual from each IP phone manufacturer for details.

1. Connect the IP telephone to the LAN hub at your home or company.
2. Check the IP address automatically assigned to the IP telephone by DHCP. Normally, it is displayed on the IP phone LCD by pressing a specific key. You may also want to take notes as your IP address and subnetmask address will be told to you by voice.
3. Input the IP address assigned to the IP telephone on your computer's browser and open the settings screen (http://192.168.1.152/, etc.).
4. Input the necessary item for connecting YouFon on each settings screen. There are many settings to be made, so it is important to distinguish the unnecessary settings from the necessary ones. Especially when using SIP IP phones, you need to pay attention to the STUN server name, etc.
5. After setting, reset the IP telephones or reboot the power.
6. When you dial Your YouFon telephone number "84635 (TIME J)" and hear the time tone, it is complete (no charge for this phone call).
7. You can test your phone by yourself with an echo test by dialing 32465 (ECHO J) (No charge for the phone call).

Using normal household fixed-line or cordless phone with ATA

Connect ATA with a normal household fixed-line or cordless telephones is more complicated than with IP phones. First, you need to connect the household phone line to the ATA line terminal and then correctly connect the telephone to the ATA TEL (Phone) terminal. Next, connect the Ethernet cable to the ATA LAN (Ethernet) terminal in the same manner as setting IP phones. Normally, ATA do not have a display, such as a liquid crystal display, so you must confirm the IP address by the telephone sound system. For some models, you can press a switch on the side of the ATA to confirm the IP address by voice over the telephone. In general, products from different manufacturer are set up following these basic procedures. We will explain the procedure assuming that you have already received your YouFon server name, YouFon telephone number, and YouFon password. Please see the operation manual of each ATA manufacturer for details. You can use the function of having a two-in-one phone where you can use one telephone for both paid and free calling by connecting a normal fixed-line phones or household cordless telephones to YouFon.

1. Connect the phone line to the ATA Line terminal. Next, connect the telephone and the ATA TEL (Phone) terminal (you need to have one more phone line).
2. Connect LAN (Ethernet) cable from a router or a hub to the ATA LAN (Ethernet) terminal. An IP address is assigned to the ATA when you turn on the power if there are DHCP settings.
3. Hold the telephone handset and listen to the IP address provided by DHCP and take notes. For some models, you need to operate a switch on the side of the ATA for listening to the voice.
4. Input the IP address assigned to the ATA on your computer's browser and open the settings screen (http://192.168.1.152/, etc.).
5. Input the necessary settings for YouFon connection on each settings screen. There are many settings, so it is important to distinguish the unnecessary settings from the necessary ones. Especially when you use SIP IP phones, you need to pay attention to the STUN server name, etc.
6. After setting, reset the ATA or reboot the power.
7. When you dial Your YouFon telephone number "84635 (TIME J)" and hear the time tone, it is complete (No charge for the phone call).
8. You can test your phone by yourself with an echo test by dialing 32465 (ECHO J) (No charge for the phone call).
9. We provide telephone meeting rooms with unlimited capacity. You can chat in the room you like from number 63381 (Meet 1) to 63389 (Meet 9). (No charge for the phone call).

Using NOKIA E61 Smartphone

YouFon can now be used with the wireless LAN-enabled E61/E60/E70 smartphones available from NOKIA, the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturer (although reception is impossible with 2 or more layers of NAT). The NOKIA E series employs a SIP stack as standard, so mobile phones can be used for free calls simply by specifying the YouFon server name, YouFon No. and password, etc. to the smartphone’s SIP setting without downloading external VoIP software. The NOKIA E series provides VoIP support as standard, so audio quality is excellent, with no discernible difference in quality between ordinary mobile phone and YouFon calls. A setup example for the Japanese E61 version is introduced as follows. If you have an E61, E60, or E70, why not try out YouFon’s free phone call voice quality for yourself.
